CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: Four-Month Paid Video Documentary Internship
The UP Third World Studies Center is now accepting applications for paid, full-time, short-term internships (04 May-31 August 2015). Net compensation is PhP10,000.00 a month. The interns will work solely on a short video documentary project with students from the University of Montreal.
Applicants must be:
- a University of the Philippines graduate of any social science, mass or visual communication, or humanities course, and
- willing to work in a four-member team in Palawan for at least three continuous weeks.
- have experience or are knowledgeable in digital filmmaking and video production, and
- can communicate effectively both in English and Filipino.
- a comprehensive curriculum vitae,
- a true copy of grades or a printout of grades from CRS, and
- a letter of application addressed to:

Dialogue with UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food Professor Hilal Elver
United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food Professor Hilal Elver visited the Third World Studies Center (TWSC) last 26 February 2015 for an informal dialogue with Filipino academics about food security in the Philippines. The informal dialogue, which was held from 9:00 AM to 12:00 NN at the TWSC Conference Room, Lower Ground Floor, Palma Hall, College of Social Sciences and Philosophy, University of the Philippines-Diliman, was co-organized by the UP Asian Center and UP TWSC.

Richard Anderson Falk is Albert G. Milbank Professor Emeritus of International Law at Princeton University and Visiting Distinguished Professor in Global and International Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In 2001, he served on a three-person Human Rights Inquiry Commission for the Palestine Territories that was appointed by the United Nations, and previously, on the Independent International Commission on Kosovo. He is the author or coauthor of numerous books, including The Great Terror War (2003), Religion and Humane Global Governance; Human Rights Horizons; On Humane Governance: Toward a New Global Politics; Explorations at the Edge of Time; Revolutionaries and Functionaries; The Promise of World Order; Indefensible Weapons; Human Rights and State Sovereignty; A Study of Future Worlds; and This Endangered Planet. He is coeditor of Crimes of War.
Professor Falk serves as Chair of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation's Board of Directors and as honourary vice president of the American Society of International Law. He also acted as counsel to Ethiopia and Liberia in the Southwest Africa Case before the International Court of Justice. He received his BS from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania; his LLB from Yale Law School; and JSD from Harvard University. In March 2008, the United Nations Human Rights Council appointed Falk to a six-year term as UN Special Rapporteur on Palestinian Human Rights.
