CALL FOR PAPERS
In commemoration of the 70th year anniversary of the end of the Pacific War, the University of the Philippines Department of History, in cooperation with the Third World Studies Center, will hold an international conference with the theme Occupation & Liberation. The conference will underscore the role of human agency in the fight for freedom by highlighting the numerous actors involved in the fight for liberation; the various narratives that provide a meaningful way to remember the day-to-day stories of individuals who lived and survived the war; and the various discourses on the Pacific War that reveal the complexities of this critical juncture in history.
We are inviting proposals for academic papers that tackle the conference theme through one of (but not limited to) the following topics:
- The Pacific War in the Philippines and Southeast Asia
- Rehabilitation and reconstruction
- Narratives from the provinces
- Experiences of ethnic groups
- Foreigners in the Philippines
- Memory and representations of war
- Folklore and folk tales about the war
- Utilities and transportation
- Everyday life in the time of war
- Science, medicine, and public health
- Arts and culture
